A week long campaign called 'Spring Online' launches today to help older people get to grips with computers and the internet, with taster sessions taking place all over the country.

Users of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer will soon find that their software is updated without having to do anything. In a bid to make it more secure, the browser will start receiving automatic updates from January. 

The move aims to combat the increasing number of fake updates, which are designed to fool users into installing malware or viruses. A similar system is already included in Google’s Chrome browser while Mozilla is looking to do the same for their Firefox software.

Ten UK cities are to become ‘super-connected’ thanks to £100 million being invested by the Government aimed at boosting the speed of internet connections.

Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London will all benefit from the funding as part of the plan to create the best broadband network in Europe by 2015. The money is on top of £830 million already set aside for broadband improvements across the country.
